On the first page of our Bibles, we learn the glorious truth that God created. This truth is so simple yet so foundational to everything both in our lives and in this world. God created. God created the heavens and the earth.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1 (LSB)

He created all things and a few verses later, we learn about God appointing the day and the night through the separation of light and darkness.

And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. And God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day. - Genesis 1:4-5 (LSB)

God separated light and darkness and established their boundaries. Those boundaries formed the separation of day and night. A couple of verses later, He continues to add to the creation of day and night by the appointment of greater and lesser lights.

Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. So God made the two great lights, the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night, and also the stars. - Genesis 1:14-16

God created light to separate day and night, and to show both signs, seasons, days, and years. Imagine if we only had darkness during all the seasons. How we would tell the difference between day or night or from season to season?

Thus having a greater light and a lesser light helps us understand the difference between day and night. So He created the sun and moon and established the sun to rule the day and the moon to govern the night. God established the appointment of days and nights in creation. He also created and established seasons, appointed times in which His creation would function in different ways according to His hand and His plan.

"You have caused all the boundaries of the earth to stand firm; You have formed summer and winter." - Psalm 74:17 (LSB)

God created seasons according to His purpose. He created the summer heat and chilly winter air. The fresh spring air with its pleasant aromas, and the breezy autumn nights. He created and established the seasons we get to enjoy through His powerful and creative hand. Each season has unique elements and purposes, such as the need for rain and sun to help vegetation grow and produce a bountiful harvest. God is sovereign over all parts of every season, and there are no mistakes. Some of those elements of the seasons we may enjoy while some we may dislike. Either way, God did create so may we be in awe of His mighty hand, and worship our sovereign God. Stop complaining and start rejoicing in all the seasons He created.

As we experience the different seasons He created, may we rejoice and give glory to God in the unique elements of His creation. As I grow older I am more constantly in awe of the God we get to worship and His glorious creation. Each season for me has particular traits that show the glory of God but would be missed if we only had one season. I think of the glistening ice in the winter, the vibrant flowers in the spring, the warm, bright summer sun, or the fall trees with various shades of yellow, orange, and red. All of His creation is showing and telling about the glory of God. Worship and submit your life to the all-powerful creator God. Soak in the autumn color during this season, and be in awe of God during this entire season. Be full of awe and praise to our God now, in the coming winter season, and in every season that He allows us to behold and enjoy.
