A Liturgy for the Arrival of Spring

There is mercy here.
I can smell it in the blossoming trees
all white and pink and fragrantly sweet.
I can hear it in the rain that beats
and lulls the weary one to sleep.
I can see it in the dawn of spring
that shatters winter so colorfully.
There is mercy here—evidence of a King
who loves the tired, worn, and weak.
He quiets the howling of winter with the presence of his peace,
made tangible in nature’s flowering.
He comforts us with lovely things.
So let’s thank him for spring,
acknowledging
that all this beauty
is a shadow of the King’s.
It’s his song the flowers sing.
