My Sin Met His Mercy (A Poem)

As I was preparing to share my testimony at my church earlier this year, these words came to mind in worship of our glorious God. These words are a little glimpse into my life, my sin, God's grace, and goodness in that salvation He has brought.
My sin was higher than Everest,
Staining deeper than the Mariana Trench,
Yet my sin met His mercy, which I don't deserve,
And this depraved heart was not so deep that He couldn't clean.
Ordained before birth and breath.
Not by His seeing or my doing.
But by His grace and mercy.
Predestined for that Narrow Path.
My sin led to His slaughter.
I deserved death, but now delight in Him.
For His sacrifice secured and,
His resurrection, the reality of new life.
His Spirit strove and stirred this unresponsive heart.
To trust and take hold of Him.
His work, with my fleshly unwillingness bringing nothing.
This is His grace, His work, and now His life.
My faithfulness and my fickleness don't change the reality.
My good works don't change it.
My great sin won't stain it.
For this is His work, not my work.
No good in me,
Yet grace upon me.
A new creation,
Now crafted for His glory.
For had it been my work,
It would have been lost on day one.
I wouldn't still believe and trust.
I wouldn't seek His face and forgiveness.
And this life will dock on eternal shores,
When His perfect work will be perfected
With no doubt, no fear,
For He holds His own, and they will not be lost.
For I am not my own;
But I stand ready to sing and shout.
For this joy is deeper than that depraved heart.
And this thankful heart will worship with all of life.
After that last breath,
It will be basking in His presence.
Where hope and faith will then,
Be beholding and knowing what life gave glimpse to.
For this is His grace, that I have experienced, tasted, and known.
His mercy has might;
It met my soul, my life, my all.
His mercy has met my sin. Praise God!
